ARDESIO

Ardesio is a village with 4.202
inhabitants placed in the Province of Bergamo, in Upper Seriana Valley,
among the Orobie Alps (on the left side of the Serio River). Its
plateau is sorrounded by an amphitheatre of mountains covered by thick
woods of fir trees, meadows and pastures.
Centre of summer stay and winter sports, Ardesio is well-known for the
frequent pilgrimages to the "Beata Vergine Maria Sanctuary".
In the centre of the village there is also San Giorgio's Parish
Church.
In ancient times Ardesio's economy was based on the exploitation of agriculture and forests and of the mining industry . As a matter of fact its silver mines were well-known.
Nowadays the local economy is based on the textile industry, on a booming craftsmanship (wood, marble,...) and on commercial activities that are tied up to season- tourism and summer-stay.
The village is composed by the main town and several hamlets (Valcanale, Zanetti, Marinoni, Bani, Cerete, Cacciamali, Ludrigno, Valzella, More, Piazzolo, Ave, Botto Alto,...). Some of these are completely uninhabited.
