CERETE
Cerete takes its name from "cerro" (a type of woody vegetation, that
is similar to oak and was very spread in the zone), and it's placed in
the middle of "Val Borlezza", a central valley among Seriana, Scalve,
Camonica e Cavallina valleys.
Cerete borders on the villages of Bossico, Sovere, Gandino, Rovetta and Songavazzo. Its territory has a surface of 1394 ha (3% on level land and 97% on mountainsides)
The altitude goes from 407 m. (between Valle dei Matti - Borlezza)
to 1419 m. (Cima Lusù).
Two waterways cross the zone: the mountain stream "Borlezza" that
springs from Col Vareno (between Castione della Presolana and Angolo
Terme), and flows to the valley to the Iseo Lake, and its affluent
Cula.
In summer the population multiply thanks to the increasing arrivals of people who choose the rest of our mountains and the balmy air.
The most precious richness in Cerete is a vivid and luxuriant nature. Here it is possible to enjoy quiet promenades on plain country paths (such as towards Cula or Borlezza); to easily reach the panoramic hills in the area (Alguarino, Pernusino, Falecchio, Cerreto, Cedrini); to go into the shady places of Selva, Barcolo, Prestaello, Crapa, Pala; to reach the meadows of Luisa, Fossato, Lentino.
Because of the scattered location of its ancient districts, Cerete
is 6-7 Km far from Clusone and 9-12 Km from Lovere.
The village reveals to tourists a surprising pleasant face too, that is signed from the ancient passage of industrious, noble and influent people. The traces are in the cobbled paving, in the steep streets with big paving slab and in the surviving mills, still in action although the weight of the centuries.
As Baradello wrote in 1905: “Maybe no village in the Province of
Bergamo has so many mural paintings as Cerete Alto. On the front of the
houses, on the corners of the streets there is a real show of ancient
paintings”; and it was true, both inside and outside the houses,
till few tens of years ago.
Especially in the churches (the two parishes, the Natività di Maria Sanctuary in Novezio and the Nobles Marinonis' sepulchral chapel in Cerete Alto), the true Art is deep-seated.
