CLUSONE

Clusone is in an overlooking position in a wide sunny plateau placed
at the ideal altitude of 648 m., surrounded by the Orobie Alps and by
the Selva Pine-wood.
It's a proper city of art and artists that contains several traces of its history and its artistic heritage.
The visitor walks along its historic centre, built on four following levels and discovers continual surprises: the most important and famous monuments (such as the town hall with the well-known Fanzago Planetary Clock and the Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta with the fresco of the Death Dance, that is known all over the world); small mansions with fifthteenth-century frescos, stone doors, loggias, painted facades, monastery cloisters, picturesque squares, entrances, courtyards and water fountains.
Thanks to the countless frescos on the walls and inside the
religious buildings, Clusone is known as "painted city".
The hint to the Fanzago Planetary Clock introduces to another important characteristic dimension: time.
As regards this aspect you can't miss a visit to the Marinoni Barca
Palace, with its "Museo Arte e Tempo" (Art and Time Museum), that is a
unique benchmark in its genre all over Europe, thanks to the collection
of tower clockworks (that go from the fourteenth Century to the
twentieth).
Moreover the museum collects the exhibition of remarkable works by painters and sculptors who came from Clusone and then became famous (as Carpinoni, Cifrondi, Nazzari, Querena, Trussardi Volpi,...).
Clusone means uncontaminated alpine nature too: as a matter of fact it is possible to go hiking, horseback riding and cycling through woods, pastures and pine-woods.
There are many paths: S. Lucio (1000 m.), where you can enjoy a peerless overview of the whole Upper Seriana Valley and the Presolana Massif; Pizzo Formico (1650 m.), where this landscape is even wider; the challenging "Orobie Path", that crosses its Alps from Laghi Gemelli Refuge to Albani Refuge.
Moreover from Clusone you can easily reach the ski resorts in the zone (Monte Pora, Presolana Pass, Colere) or even in the city you can find an important cross-country skiing ring, which was a World Cup seat.
The Iseo Lake too is really near, just
15 Km far.
IN 2008 CLUSONE ACHIEVED THE "ORANGE FLAG",
GIVEN BY THE ITALIAN TOURING CLUB.
