Gromo arises on a rocky headland, surrounded by meadows and woods of fir trees, with its houses clustered around Ginami's castle.

The village was well-known in the past thanks to its iron and silver mines and its knifes factories, while nowadays it has a well-established tradition as regards tourism and winter sports. As a matter of fact its economy is based on summer and winter stay, in addition to wood carving and hydroelectric industry.

The historic centre shows considerable monuments, as Ginami's castle; the sixteenth-century town hall palace with its internal frescos on the arms-market; S. Gregorio's little church with a wonderful seventeenth-century altar piece by Enea Talpino; several fifteenth and sixteenth-century noble residences and the eighteenth-century parish church, dedicated to S. Giacomo and S. Vincenzo, with a precious Fantonian wood altar and valuable paintings and frescos.

Winter sports are gathered in the zone of Boario-Spiazzi-Vodala, where it is possible to practise alpine and cross-country skiing.
