ONETA

Oneta is placed on the upper part of
Riso Valley, 32 Km far from Bergamo and has a surface of 18,26
Km.
It borders on the villages of Colzate (South-West) at the height of
the hamlet Chignolo, a small part of Premolo and Gorno, and it is
composed of four main hamlets, with as many districts. Villa,
Scullera, Cantoni and Chignolo, with their districts
Plazza, Molini, Tezolo and Ortello are the ancient
housing units that compose the community of Oneta.
Its wide mountain territory is characterised by a narrow bottom of
the valley, with high and steep hilllocks covered by thick woods of
beeches, firs, larches, birches and alders.
Then the ground gradually goes up and stretches out with milder slopes, where there are built-up areas and farmings, and finally ends up with two mountaintops: Grem (2049 m - North) and Alben (2019 m - South West).
All the housing units are over 700 m, are placed towards morning or midday, and are surrounded by meadows and woods, so that visitors can have wonderful walks.
Riso stream springs from Grem (area Cantoni), crosses and divides
the territory into two almost equal parts, grows big thanks to other
near valleys and then ends up as affluent of the Serio river. In the
past its water has activated the milling machines, a forge and a
"pesta", contributing to the economical development of the zone.
