Ponte Nossa is placed on the right side of Serio River, in Upper Seriana Valley, almost 27 Km far from Bergamo.

The first documents that prove the existence of the village date back to 1071, when Da Nossa's family settled here. The jurist Beltramino da Nossa was one of its descendants, and in his life received several honours.

Thus, the name of the village is supposed to come from these noble inhabitants, although there aren't other noteworthy writings that describe the history of the place.

Actually, according to other sources, the name comes from the existence of a bridge over the Nossa stream, that flows into Serio river just inside the village.

This stream passes through a valley (named "Nossana"), that is rich of zinc seams, that were exploited in many mines, now no more used.

Moreover, the waters of Nossa stream were used till few years ago in several "magli" for the metalwork (nowadays it is possible to visit the "Maglio Museo").

In the recent past there was a development of important textile and mining industries, that gave Ponte Nossa an industrial mark, but unfortunately now two important historic factories have closed down.

Virgin Mary's Annunciation Parish Church was bulit in 1462 and was restructured at the beginning of the twentieth century. It is the destination of many pilgrimages and the object of popular veneration because of the miracle of Our Lady's Cry, that happened on June 2, 1511 and was documented by notary deed.

In April the people of the village fall a fir (the "Mas"), decorate it and bring it through the streets to the churchyard, where it is blessed.

On the 1st May it is brought to the top of Pizzo Guazza and is planted next to the statue of Our Lady.

On the evening of the 1st June it is pulled down and burned, while in the village the people prepare the party for the "Apparizione della Madonna delle Lacrime" with chants, dances and fireworks.

Ponte Nossa is divided into districts: Campolungo, Ponte ( or San Bernardino ), Capra Bassa, Capra Alta, La Piana, Oltre Serio (Spiazzi, Scalvina), Prealpina Inferiore.
