Valgoglio is placed in Upper Seriana Valley (929 mt), over a wide mountain terrace at the right side of Serio river.

With its two hamlets Novazza and Colarete, the village preserves the natural landscape that was handed down by a nature-respectful civilisation.

The name "Valgoglio" comes from Goglio stream, which in turn comes from the term "goi" (that's to say the stretch of the river where water is very deep because of holes at the bottom).

In ancient times the events of the village were strictly linked to the ones of Gromo: in the Middle Ages also in Valgoglio and Colarete the flourishing activities were metalwork and knifes production.

Moreover Novazza is well-known because of its uranium mine, that has never been used.

Anyway all the territory is rich of minerals, such as gold.

The economy of the village is based on the exploitation of agricultural and forest resources, on the summer tourism and on the hydroelectric industry.
